Co-operative insurance provides coverage at lower cost to members!
Corporate takeovers, mega mergers, recession/inflation economics; in this age of
high finance, it's nice to hear about companies with old-fashioned values. Northern
Kentucky Home Insurance Company is one such company.
The company was formed as a co-op at the turn of the century and no one has found
a reason to change it much. Former president Earnest Rahe said, "It really boils
down to community values." Cooperative insurance could be compared to the
tradition of barn raising. If a family's barn is destroyed , the whole community
comes together to restore the building.
Essentially, the members of Northern Kentucky Home Insurance Co. help each
other by using a collection of money from the region, which enables all the
members to "bear one another's burdens".
Our company is a cooperative organized under Chapter 299 of Kentucky Insurance
law. All policyholders are members of the co-op and are given voting rights as to
how the company is operated by the 12-member Board of Directors. Each member is
given one vote per each $1000 of coverage purchased.
Everyone benefits from the pooled resources, by having equal affordable rates
throughout the sales territory even if they live far away from a fire department.
Many companies won't insure farms or houses that aren't very close to a fire
hydrant, have wood stoves or metal roofs. Our company holds the position that
every family should be able to afford protection of house and home against tragic
loss by fire, wind, lightning, hail, the weight of ice and snow, gas explosion, and
theft & vandalism.
Northern Kentucky Home Insurance Co. is pleased to be a part of keeping the "Ben
Franklin" concept of insurance management alive for each new generation.
